お婆さんは毎日散歩する。でも、ある日、足が痛くなった。歩く前に、ストレッチをしなかったからかもしれない。「まだ大丈夫」と言った。でも、一週間後、まだ痛かった。

お婆さんの娘が「病院に行った方がいいよ」と言った。病院で先生が「無理しないでください」と言った。お婆さんはしょんぼりした。でも、「少し休んだら、また歩けますよ」と先生が言った。

お婆さんは「じゃ、三日間休むつもりです!」と言った。でも、次の日、「やっぱり、ちょっとだけ歩きたいんです!」と言って、こっそり外に行った。

Grammar used:

  • つもり (Plan to / Intend to (future intention).)
  • ないでください (Please don’t ~ (polite prohibition).)
  • まだ (Still / Not yet (continuing or incomplete action).)

つもり

Meaning: Plan to ~ / Intend to ~

Formation:

  • Verb (dictionary form) + つもりです (for future plans)
  • Verb (ない-form) + つもりです (for intentions not to do something)

Examples:

来年、日本に行くつもりです。
(I plan to go to Japan next year.)

今日、テレビを見ないつもりです。
(I intend not to watch TV today.)

Note:

  • Used when strongly deciding on a future action.

Meaning: Please don’t do ~ (Used to politely ask someone not to do something)

Formation:

  • Verb (ない-form) + でください

Examples:
ここで写真を撮らないでください。

夜、ゲームをしないでください。
(Please don’t play games at night.)

Note:

  • Stronger than just “辞めてください” (please stop), but still polite.
  • If used in casual speech, it’s often shortened to ないで (e.g.,「さわらないで!」 → “Don’t touch it!”)

まだ

Meaning: Still / Not yet

Formation:

  • まだ + Positive verb → Still doing something
  • まだ + Negative verb (ていません / ない) → Not yet done

Examples:
まだ勉強しています。
(I’m still studying.)

まだ昼ご飯を食べていません。
(I haven’t eaten lunch yet.)

Note:

  • まだ + positive form = Continuing action
  • まだ + negative form = Action hasn’t happened yet
  • Different from もう, which means “already.”

前に

Formation:

  • Noun + の + 前に → Before (a noun event)
  • Verb (dictionary form) + 前に → Before doing ~

Examples:
寝る前に、本を読みます。

テストの前に、沢山勉強しました。

  • Different from てから, which means “after” instead of “before.”

んです

Meaning: Explanation or emphasis (Used to give reasons or emphasize a situation)

Formation:

  • Verb (plain form) + んです
  • い-adjective + んです
  • な-adjective / Noun + なんです

Examples:
どうして遅れたんですか?

昨日は雨だったんです。
(It was raining yesterday, you see.)

Note:
